A horse of any discipline can benefit from a pre-event massage (dressage, hunter, jumper, eventing, endurance, polo, western performance, harness, trail riding, etc.) A pre-event massage can help ready the neuromuscular system for quick reaction and heightened coordination. The techniques used in the pre-event massage are vigorous and stimulating, with a focus on the major muscle groups. The goal of a pre-event massage is to increase circulation and nervous input to the muscles. This provides greater endurance and flexibility, and encourages rapid firing of the nerve fibers leading to a quicker reaction and greater proficiency of movement. A pre-event massage can prepare the horse for any event or activity. - Prior to competition, massage can help lethargic horses by stimulating the circulatory system and increasing the blood flow and flow of oxygen to the brain and muscles aiding alertness and responsiveness. - Passive stretches ensure tendons, muscles, and ligaments are warm, elastic, and supple, which can increase range of movement. - Conversely, a highly strung, nervous horse can benefit from a massage that concentrates on the nervous system by relaxing his mental state and stimulating natural pain reducing endorphins. Travel fee of 55 cents per mile for distances over 45 miles. Travel fee may be waived if multiple horses at the same location are receiving services on the same day. Group rate available! Call or e-mail to schedule your service. Note: Despite the many benefits of equine massage, the practice is not recommended as a substitute for veterinary care.
